Late summer nights in Southern California are the best thing we know. So we're dragging the bar out back: astroturf underfoot, lawn games, burgers on the grill, and classic cocktails made the way the book says.

  • Do I need a reservation?

    No. It's a backyard. Walk in through the back gate.

  • How much does it cost?

    Nothing to get in. You pay for what you eat and drink.

  • What time does it wrap up?

    Sundown. When the sky's done, so are we.

  • Are kids welcome?

    Yes. It's a barbecue.

  • Can I bring my dog?

    Friendly, leashed dogs are very welcome.

  • What's on the food menu?

    Burgers, dogs, and pie. Short and perfect. Full menu at the door.

  • What should I wear?

    Backyard casual. Terry cloth and tube socks encouraged.

  • Is the regular bar still open?

    Yes. PIONEER keeps its normal hours inside, Tuesday through Sunday, 5 to 11 PM.

  • What if it rains?

    It's August in Southern California. If the sky surprises us, we'll post on Instagram.
